Lumenis · Aesthetic Lasers · $22,000 – $42,000
A machine with 6,000 handpiece hours and a clean service log from the last 2 years runs $35k–$42k. Drop to 9,000+ hours with a 18-month service gap, and you're looking at $22k–$28k - that tube's on borrowed time.
Inspect the handpiece lens for internal fogging or discoloration under bright light - that's $1,800–$2,400 to replace and means the optics are degrading. Pull the service records and match them to the handpiece hour counter; if the math doesn't track, the log's fake. Run a test pulse on the target tissue dummy or a ham slab - you'll hear if the flash lamp's weak.
California clinics (LA, San Diego, Orange County) are hunting ResurFX units hard because med-spa chains like SkinSpirit and Sona MedSpa are expanding; supply's tight and prices creep up 3–5% every quarter. Texas and Florida have softer demand, so the same machine lists $2k–$4k cheaper there.

Different entirely. Excel HR is 585nm and 1064nm - it kills red and brown pigment fast. ResurFX is fractional collagen remodeling, so texture, scars, stretch marks. Don't cross-sell them; they're complementary. Ideal Image runs both because they stack revenue.
Handpiece hours and tube age. A ResurFX with 12,000+ hours is worth $18k–$24k even if it runs fine because the next owner knows the tube's life is 2–3 years max. Also: missing factory calibration certs from Lumenis. No cert, you can't warranty-claim repairs, and clinics notice.
Handpieces and flash lamps are Lumenis-locked. You cannot cherry-pick parts from a Sciton JOULE or M22. If your handpiece dies and you don't have spares, the machine is a paperweight for 6–10 weeks. That's why Schweiger Dermatology keeps backup handpieces in stock.

I can source a B-grade unit with 7,000 hours and current service docs in 6–8 weeks versus you waiting 4 months on Facebook marketplace or taking a $6k hit buying locally blind. That's $800–$1,200 in your pocket just from timing.
