Dentsply Sirona · Dental Equipment · $25,000 – $45,000
A unit with <8,000 handpiece hours and clean service records runs $38k–$45k; machines sitting for 2+ years without maintenance logs drop to $25k–$32k because you're inheriting unknown calibration drift. Handpiece replacement alone costs $3,200–$4,100 if you need it.
Pull the service logs and check if the calibration verification was done in the last 12 months - Sirona charges $600 to recalibrate if it's expired. Physically inspect the scanner lens for scratches or discoloration under bright light; even hairline damage kills optical accuracy. Fire it up with their demo file and run a full scan on the practice model; if it takes >45 seconds or drops frames, the CCD sensor is degrading.
Southern California and Texas chains are absorbing used Omnicams aggressively because Heartland Dental is consolidating regional practices and liquidating duplicate equipment. Denver and Phoenix have tight inventory right now because Western Dental's service territory expanded and they're retrofitting smaller DSOs.

It connects to CEREC Link, which talks to Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, and most other PMS platforms via HL7 protocol. The integration works but it's not seamless - plan 6–8 hours of IT setup. Some practices bypass it and just export STL files manually, which adds 90 seconds per case but costs zero.
Scanner-only units are $25k–$35k; scanner + CEREC MC mill bundle runs $48k–$60k used. If you already have a Planmeca PlanMill or Amann Girrbach unit, buy scanner-only and pocket the $15k–$20k difference. The scanner is 90% of the clinical value anyway.
Calibration verification every 12 months is Sirona's requirement; most practices do it every 18–24 months and still get ±50 micron accuracy. If you see crown remakes jumping above 5%, it's time. A third-party service center in your region will run $400–$800 per visit instead of Sirona's $600 call-out fee plus travel.

If you buy used and avoid Sirona's $8,500 annual service contract by using a third-party tech, you save $26,000 over the first five years. Most buyers recoup the equipment cost in 18–24 months by eliminating lab fees ($45–$120 per crown × 8–12 crowns weekly = $18k–$60k annually).
