Sciton · Aesthetic Lasers · $60,000 – $110,000
A unit with <6,000 BBL handpiece hours and a clean service record from 2022 onward sits $95k–$110k. Jump down to $60k–$75k if you see >10,000 hours on the BBL head or a 18-month gap between maintenance records - that's a red flag for wear or neglect.
Walk up and fire the BBL handpiece. Listen for the capacitor whine - sharp and quick means new capacitors, slow/dull means they're aging and you're buying a $2,100 capacitor bank replacement in 6 months. Check the HALO articulating arm for play in the joints; any slack = bearing wear. Pull the service log and match dates to what the seller claims; if they say 'light use' but there's a 14-month service gap, call them on it.
California (especially OC and LA) has the highest turnover - practices upgrade or close quarterly, so used JOULE supply is consistent but competitive. Texas is hot right now; LaserAway's expansion means practices are buying comparable used units to match their demand without the $180k+ new price tag.

No. JOULE handpieces are proprietary to the JOULE console. Old Sciton BBL heads won't dock. Don't let a seller tell you otherwise. If handpiece inventory is missing, assume $3,500–$5,200 per handpiece to replace.
M22 is single-platform (IPL only, no fractional options). JOULE gives you BBL, HALO fractional, and Moxi - three revenue streams from one machine. M22 used runs $45k–$65k, so you're paying $15k–$45k more for the JOULE but getting ablative + fractional capability. M22 is simpler, fewer moving parts; JOULE is a clinic-in-a-box if you train properly.
Not automatically. Check who flipped it - if it moved between corporate chains (Sona MedSpa, Ideal Image), the maintenance is usually solid. If it ping-ponged between independent operators with no verifiable service history, yes, pass. Get a tech inspection (150 bucks) before committing. At 8,200 hours with clean logs, $89k is fair; without logs, it's a gamble.

I source and vet equipment, so I save you 15–20 hours of due diligence (phone calls, walkthroughs, paperwork) and typically knock 10–15% off asking price because sellers trust the process. That's roughly $8,000–$12,000 in negotiation value plus zero risk of buying a unit with a hidden service recall.
