KaVo · Dental Equipment · $5,000 – $12,000
A unit with under 18,000 exposures and full maintenance records from Heartland Dental or a solo practice runs $9,500–$12,000. Below 12,000 exposures or with a 3+ year service gap? Drop it to $5,500–$7,000 because you're buying a tube replacement conversation.
Pop the cabinet - look at the tube head for oil seeping around the gasket seal, that's a $2,800 rebuild. Run 5 test images on a phantom head and check for ghosting or drift in the digital readout; any lag over 200ms means the sensor board is next. Pull service records and verify calibration was done within the last 18 months, not 'sometime in 2021.'
Texas DSOs are hungry for these because used panos cut their capital spend per chair by 40% versus new. California Bay Area practices moving to 3D-only workflows are liquidating panoramic equipment, so inventory is tighter and prices hold at the higher end.

If tube hours are under 15,000 and you see calibration every 18 months, yeah. The tube itself is rated for 40,000–50,000 hours; that's your real expiration date. Most clinics get 6–7 solid years because pano usage is light compared to intraoral sensors.
Orthophos SL is newer, runs $14,000–$16,000 used, has slightly better noise filtering in the image. But the GX-770 holds accuracy just as well and costs $4,000–$6,000 less - you're paying for age, not clinical performance. Sage Dental buys both interchangeably.
Sensor is proprietary and locked. You can't swap it. But honestly, the 1024 × 768 is plenty for diagnoses; if you need 4K panoramic images, you're already running CBCT and this isn't your bottleneck.

I place these in 10–14 days average because the supply is real but demand from multi-unit operators never stops. That beats waiting 6 months for a buyer to stumble on Craigslist and saves a clinic $1,200 in carrying costs while it sits on the floor.
