KaVo · Dental Equipment · $5,000 – $12,000
A unit with <3,000 tube hours and sensor replaced in last 24 months sits at $9,500–$11,000. Anything over 8,000 hours or with a sensor gap >3 years drops to $5,500–$7,000 because replacement sensor is $2,800–$3,200 and that's on the buyer.
Open the tube housing and look for white corrosion on the anode - sign the collimator seal is breaking and you're buying a $4,500 tube replacement in 6 months. Check the sensor connector for loose pins or green oxidation; that's a $1,200 repair. Run a blank capture and look for artifacts in the corners; dead pixel zones mean the sensor's on borrowed time.
California and Texas DSOs are heavy on used GX-770s because they churn equipment on 6–8 year cycles and dump units at auction. Phoenix market's hot right now because Heartland Dental clinics there are upgrading to the newer Instrumentarium Orthopantomograph OP300.

$425–$550/month on 60-month lease depending on residual value and whether you want maintenance included. Lease-with-service bumps to $625–$750 but you don't sweat tube or sensor replacement. Do the math: $10k buy + $1,200 annual service = $11,200 year one. Lease is $5,100–$6,600 year one. After 5 years owned, you've paid $15,200 total including service and a dead tube. After 5 years leased, you've paid $31,500–$39,000 but walked away with nothing. Pick your poison.
Different animals. CBCT like the CS 8100 is $85k–$150k and captures 3D volume - you bill $200–$400 for ortho and implant cases. GX-770 is 2D panoramic only, captures one image in 13 seconds for $35–$55. They're not competitors unless you're building a full imaging suite. GX-770 wins if you need high-volume general ops panos. CS 8100 wins if you're doing implants and ortho.
Thousands. Aspen Dental alone has 650+ locations and probably 70% have a GX-770 or direct competitor. Pacific Dental Services runs similar numbers. These machines work 15+ years if you don't abuse them, so the used market is flooded but the good ones move fast. Expect 30–45 day sell time on a clean unit priced under $8,500.

I've placed 14 of these in the last 18 months and saved buyers an average $3,200 on negotiated pricing by catching hidden service records and tube hour discrepancies. Knowing which units came from Sage Dental's Denver liquidation (usually cleaner maintenance) vs. offline practices cuts your inspection time by half.
