J. Morita · Dental Equipment · $32,000 – $65,000
A unit with sub-5,000 scan hours and continuous service records runs $58k–$65k. Drop below 3,000 hours or find a gap in maintenance history longer than 18 months, and you're looking at $32k–$42k - because recalibration and sensor replacement can run $3,200–$5,800.
Pull up the service log and actually count the gaps. Ask the seller to run a test scan in front of you - a slow start-up (over 30 seconds to first image) signals aging capacitors or a worn spindle bearing. Physically inspect the sensor window for dust or scratches; a cloudy or cracked window kills image quality and costs $2,100 to replace.
Southern California is saturated; Western Dental has half their locations covered. Texas and the Southeast are hungry right now - Sage Dental's expansion into Dallas is pushing used CBCT demand up 18% year-over-year.

Capacitor bank degradation - you'll see longer startup times and occasional image artifacts. Also the spindle bearing on the rotating gantry; replacement is $1,600–$2,400 labor included. If the unit hasn't had a capacitor refresh by 8,000 hours, budget for it.
Only if you're doing heavy orthodontics or a ton of surgical guides. The 3De does 85% of the clinical work. The 4D adds faster imaging and a larger FOV, but if you're two to three years out from replacement, grab the 3De and reinvest the $30k difference in software or perio lasers.
You're locked to J. Morita sensors - third-party sensors will void the warranty and produce garbage images. It's proprietary. Don't try it.

I handle the tech inspection, negotiate the price down 12–15% off asking, and coordinate transport and installation, saving you $4,800–$9,750 in back-and-forth and dead-weight deal kills. Most clinic managers spend 40+ hours on this without a broker; I do it in 8.
