A-dec · Dental Equipment · $8,000 – $18,000
A unit under 3,000 chair hours with service history (annual maintenance documented) lands $14K–$18K. Missing service records or a non-functional delivery unit drops price to $8K–$11K because you're funding a $1,500–$2,800 rebuild before installation.
Open the chair fully reclined and check for hydraulic seepage around the seat cylinder - any wet spots mean a $900 seal replacement. Run high-speed and low-speed handpieces simultaneously for 60 seconds and listen for pressure drops or stuttering. Inspect the LED light lens for cracks or delamination; a replacement is $600 but non-negotiable if you're paying top dollar.
Southern California and Arizona are eating up used A-dec 500s because DSO expansion (Heartland, Sage) is adding chairs faster than used inventory moves. Irvine to Phoenix corridor sees 40–50 units move per quarter, so pricing holds firm.

Pressure test it. High-speed should hit 500–600 PSI, low-speed 300–400 PSI. If either is below 250 PSI or spits water when you pull the trigger, the lines are compromised. That's a $2,200 rebuild, not a field fix.
Seat cylinder seals ($900), footrest solenoid valves ($450), and LED ballast ($350) are the Big Three. A-dec Direct and Henry Schein stock them both; A-dec is typically 10–15% cheaper but slower. I've got vendor relationships and can usually beat both by 20% if you buy three or more units from me.
You don't need it, but it costs $800–$1,200/year and keeps the chair from dying during a 7-patient day. Most DSO contracts are 4–5 units bundled at $3,500/year. If your chair is over 5,000 hours, skip it and budget $1,500 in emergency repairs instead - you'll break even.

I can source a delivery unit rebuild kit ($1,200) and get it installed before you take delivery - saves 2–3 weeks of chair downtime and $800 in labor if you DIY. Most brokers hand you the chair; I hand you a working one.
