Midmark · Dental Equipment · $7,000 – $15,000
Used UltraComfort prices track the service history gap: chairs with documented maintenance records and <2 years since last upholstery hit $12–15K; chairs with missing service logs or visible wear drop to $7–9K fast. That $4–6K swing is real money when you're stocking 8–12 operatories.
Physically check the foot pedal responsiveness - worn cables add $400–600 in repair costs within 6 months. Inspect the backrest seams for splits (reupholstery trigger). Run the patient positioning through full range at least 10 times; any grinding or lag in hydraulics means you're looking at seal replacement ($800–1,200).
California DSO consolidation is pushing used chair demand hard - Aspen Dental and Pacific Dental Services buyouts in the Central Valley created a glut of used UltraComforts hitting the secondary market in late 2023. Texas, by contrast, is tight; chairs move in 2–3 weeks there.

Buy: You own it in 12 months, depreciation is your problem. Lease: $600–850/month, maintenance included, you swap it out if it fails. At month 16 you've paid $11K on a lease but own nothing. Math says buy if the clinic stays 4+ years; lease if you're a satellite or rolling out fast.
Only if it's been beat on or serviced sporadically. A chair that's been in a single-doctor office with regular maintenance usually outlasts one that bounced between three DSO locations in 3 years. Ask for service records or walk.
Parts availability is solid through 2027–28 at minimum. Footswitch assemblies, solenoid valves, upholstery kits - all still available through Midmark direct or brokers. After that, you're hunting aftermarket, which works but costs more.

I can source a quality used unit with full service records in 10–14 days instead of you waiting 6–8 weeks on a new order and setup. That means you're open and generating revenue instead of blocked operatories - roughly $800–1,200 in lost production per chair per week.
